For my canada GC i calibrated my camera, took pictures of 3 of us with my 3 mega-pixel camera, and printed at walmart on 4x6 then cut 27 X 27mm, and it worked, i have canada GC. just make sure front face, white b/g, enough brightness. i would not risk it for my US GC though.

Thanks!!!...She is infact leaving this weekend.. I hope she wont have any problems while coming back. Another question..What happens if the employer withdraws the H1b while she is in India...?If she leaves now can she get her H4 stamped even if the H1b is not withdrawn?

Contrast this with H1-B Visa applicants.If some one on H1-B visa were to change jobs, they need to furnish following documents
1.W-2 for last year
2. Two latest paystubs
3. Copies of all educational degrees held.
In addition,there will be a background check from a professional agency,which will actually call -
-All previous employer mentioned in resume
-Checks with all educational institutes mentioned in resume
-Call up references
-Criminal Check.
Now, whom will you hire next time? A Green Card job applicant just supplies a SSN,and a simple criminal check is run against them.They can fake all the degrees and work experience they want.There is no way to verify last salary held by a citizen/GC applicant. Poor H1-B visa holder can not even fake this simple thing.

She said the same thing. I CAN work on EAD renewal receipt for 90 days and then get interim EAD card from local office after 90 days.

Thanks, You are right I havent applied for my I485 yet. I am only concerened about when I return back to US, will there is any issues at POE due to my long absence on H1B?

You can't maintain H-1B status while physically residing in India. But, you can still have your GC process running.
An absence won't be of any consequence as long as the visa is valid and you are employed by the same employer.

How long have you been an NRI? asking NRE questions? neway... :)
1. Seems most of the banks offer NRE account for NRIs. In general, which bank is better for opening such an account?
-> Yes,All most all banks , execept few local banks like co-operative/union banks may not.
My choice ( ICICI ,CITI ,SBI ). while ICICI has professional customer service/ and good online portal/managebility. They are matured in NRI banking than any other. They are little behind interest rates when compared to SBI. Free Remittance USD to INR will take about a week. SBI, with poor customer service/portal frustates me, but for safety, SBI is winner. Also lately i found remittance takes just 1day ( using their NY branch ), best exchange rate.
2. Do all the banks which offer NRE accounts offer account services irrespective of which branch I open the account at? e.g., if I open an NRE account say in delhi, can I have access to and get service for the account say in bangalore? Or do I have to go to that particular branch where I opened the account? In this regard, which bank is better?
-> I think now a days all big banks are having access to all their branches online, so you should be good in most cases.
3. Which bank generally gives better exchange rates?
-> SBI. ( with a difference of 2-5cents/USD ICICI,Remit2India, SBI ).
4. Any pros or cons in opening the NRE account at one bank vs. the other?
-> Yes, for ex: ICICI with its pros and cons, it has transfer limit of 2laks/day outgoing using online. I would say, open in multiple banks and get to know which one is better over the time. Also,othes can correct me here, TDS ( tax deduction at source ) applies per account/per branch/per bank. So spread your money in multiple banks to stay under the TDS limits.

Interesting..If I visit VFS in person when I'm in Chennai, How soon will I get the appointment. My visa expires in Feb'07 and I'm going to Chennai for 3 weeks in Nov. So If I don't get appt I can always try for the next trip..
As said they have seprate quota for 'Returning workers' . I have used it. I went to VFS on 23rd nov 2005 and got appt for 30th Nov 2005.

Hi folks,
Here's my situation:
Currently applied for 485 and waiting for receipt
Will be applying for EAD/AP this week.
I am working Company XYZ, in State A, City A currently and will be transferring to State B, City B within the same company, with the same job designation/description etc., absolutely no changes on that front and virtually no change in salary but in compliance with prevailing wage etc. for State B, City B.
Also the transfer is not going to affect my 485 because of my 140 which said "relocation within the US may be necessary" and this was expected when I started my GC.
The issue is with a technicality - my PERM was for XYZ, Inc and the same company in State B is called XYZ Engineering Inc, technically 2 different companies and that's because every state has its own rules as to how a national company can be registered/operated.
Coming to my question re H1B:
My corporate attorney says that due to this technicality, my H1B needs to be AMENDED which according to my GC attorney is the same as applying for a new H1B but not having to wait in line. My question is whether this will have a negative impact on my pending 485/EAD/AP in any way.
Please advice. Anything will help.

I was surprised to see my AP in hand
It seems it was approved on Oct 9 and my attorney received it on 22 oct
I received it today to be very surprised as the online message still says case received and pending
What surprises me more is that I had called USCIS 2 times between oct 9 and today and they didnot tell me that the case has been approved

Did you see Oct 9th as LUD on your case? We are trying to figure out if LUD is giving any indication towards when USCIS issues the approval.
